League of Wrestling Mask Portraits
The League of Wrestling Mask Portraits, features, satirical paintings of famous and controversial people wearing personalized, wrestling masks.
Portraits (Fugitives)
This collection features a series of paintings of fugitives. Police mug shots provided the source material. An important part of the creative process involved selecting the images for the paintings. The source images were selected for their ability to provoke an immediate, emotional response.
There is no indication to the viewer of the reason why the subject is a fugitive from the law. Their crimes may range from petty or heinous. The viewer is left to make judgements about character without background information. The titles are fictitious names which make reference to crime, the justice system, or morality.
These portraits provoke a response without being gratuitous. They disturb subtly, not overtly. They cause the viewer to form narratives based on their intuitive, face-reading skills.
Portraits (Masked)
At the time these paintings were created (2010), Barack Obama was perhaps the most famous person in the world. Sarah Palin, a political rival, was quite famous as well. Delaney wondered how easily they might be recognized, in portrait form, if most of their faces were hidden . The concept of the mask evolved from this question. The mask, painted over the face in an abstract form, inspires curiosity in the viewer. A mask focuses a viewer's attention on the eyes and mouth.

Still Life (Unfinished)
This collection features works in progress. They may be completed eventually, however, sometimes an unfinished piece has a settled appearance that doesn't require additional work.
