This series is rooted in nostalgia and personal history. My childhood Game Boy Colour (the purple translucent model) became the starting point for each piece. I recreated the handheld in different colourways, each one inspired by a Pokémon game I loved growing up (even though, unfortunately, there was never an official Pokémon Purple).
Each work features an original Pokémon card from my own collection, built up over time. The cards range in age from 1999 to the early 2000s, with some newer additions from 2021 — mostly duplicates that already held personal value rather than collector status.
Once the Game Boy drawings and cards were sealed, I poured a layer of glittered resin over each wooden canvas to bring the elements together and give the pieces a finished, almost toy-like surface. One of the works includes hand-made Pikachu heads sculpted from resin and painted by hand, adding an extra layer of playfulness and texture.
The series debuted at the Super Wonder Gallery Toy Art Show. The red piece sold to a single collector on the first day of the exhibition, and the remaining four works were purchased on the second day of the same event.
This series was about revisiting something familiar and joyful, turning childhood memories into objects that feel celebratory and tactile. Making them was genuinely fun — and the response reinforced how shared that nostalgia really is. I’m looking forward to continuing the series and expanding it further.
