This piece is a profound exploration of life, death, and transformation, symbolized by the celestial dance of the moon. π The crescent moon represents a state of transition, where ego dies to make way for spiritual growth. It reflects upon the past, a reminder of the journey we've taken and the lessons we've learned.
Conversely, π the full moon signifies completion and the realization of desires. It's a time of heightened power and clarity, representing the present moment where we stand at the peak of our potential. Despite its dark appearance, this piece is brimming with light and meaning, serving as a testament to the beauty found in every stage of life's cycle.
In the process of creating this artwork, I applied a generous amount of gesso (primer) to the canvas before painting. The excess gesso caused drips to form along the sides of the canvas. Instead of wiping them away for a smooth finish, I embraced the imperfection and allowed the drips to dry naturally. These drips became a part of the piece, adding texture and depth to the frame.
The red paint that appears to be blood on the outside of the canvas is a deliberate choice, representing the overflow of abundance and vitality. The drips bring further texture to the piece, raised from the canvas surface, symbolizing the dynamic energy that flows through life.
To preserve and enhance the artwork, I sealed it with resin, ensuring its longevity and adding a glossy finish that brings out the depth and richness of the colors. This piece is not just a work of art; it's a journey, an exploration of the light and darkness within us all, and a reminder of the beauty found in embracing every aspect of our existence.
