ARTIST BIO
Erin Tyler is a third-year graduate student and process-based artist whose work examines identity and ancestral connections through the lens of a family quilt. By photographing, digitally manipulating, and translating quilt imagery into paint, she introduces layers of transformation, exploring themes of change
and impermanence.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Her latest series investigates the shifting relationship between presence and absence. In works like Residual and Obscura, fragmented forms and abstracted imagery hint at the instability of memory and the impermanence of images. Artifact and Scroll evoke a sense of movement and transition, capturing a fleeting rhythm between seeing and preserving. Through layered contrasts and subtle textures, the paintings invite a thoughtful engagement with what is lost and what lingers, echoing our increasingly tenuous relationship with digital images as carriers of memory.
