STATEMENT: My very first thought of home was wood and brick; literal materials in my primary childhood home. Those materials are sturdy, warm and reliable. As I grew up and lived in so many homes throughout my young adult life and continued to move many times throughout my marriage and current family life, home represents all the different versions of me. Each home I’ve lived in immediately makes me think about the person I was when I lived there. I believe home should reflect the people that live there so home cannot mean anything other than people. These elements in my piece are characters of people I’ve shared spaces with as well as the different characters of myself, building a floor to walk upon or a wall brick by brick for protection.
