Follow me to Freedom started with 6 inch Underground Railroad blocks in red and white. I wanted an URR quilt made with smaller blocks. I decided to place the blocks in a landscape setting so I pieced a red background and added house blocks and tree blocks. Because I love words in my quilts, I appliqued the words “Follow Me to Freedom” and “Harriet Tubman”. I embellished the houses and trees with buttons, yo-yo’s and silk flowers. My friend Maxine Moore quilted the quilt on her long arm.
There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt. I signed it on the front. This quilt is one-of-a-kind and ready for Juneteenth exhibits.
