High Four
- Bronze
- 54 x 27 x 45 in
- Louise Peterson
A piece inspired by two Great Danes: Hamlet, a Dane well-known in the show ring for his high five, and a friend of the artists Dane with its dew claws removed. Thus the piece became "High Four."
"As a long time Great Dane owner, I see in these dogs a combination of playful goofiness and regal elegance. As a sculptor I see also a magnificent combination of long bones, muscled limbs, folds of skin and dynamic movement. Although I began as a classical figurative sculptor, in recent years more and more of my work has been driven by my desire to capture the vast array of movements and moods expressed by my Danes. I donate a portion of my sales to rescue groups helping Great Danes less fortunate than my own."
Born in Darlington, England, Ms. Peterson trained in classical ballet at The Urdang Academy and The North London School of Performing Arts and performed with Dance for Everyone (London) and The Israel Ballet (Tel Aviv). Her dance experience helped shape her love of figurative sculpture.
