Copper engraving depicting the fortress of Orșova above an island on the Danube, in the distance of the Iron Gates. Author G. Filosi S. and Gio. de Honftein, chief engineer.

The map is dated to the early modern period, approximately the 17th - 18th centuries.

The island represented in the engraving is most likely the island of Ada Kaleh, or the island of Fortăreață as it would be translated. It has been inhabited since antiquity as mentioned by Herodotus and disappeared in 1970 with the creation of the Iron Gates I reservoir.
