Searching For Answers by Miriam Traher Image: Our mark is as personal as our thumbprint that is identifiable and unique to us. What is your mark, and what does it say about you? My individual marks are my words that I use to tell my story. What’s my story, what’s my why is the million dollar question and something I haven’t quite nailed down, and I am not sure we ever will or are supposed to “find.” This piece is not about what is seen but what is discovered and remembered. In part, it’s about the enormity of being that tomorrow, the sun will come up again, no matter what. Grass grows, even on a manicured lawn or a crack in the pavement. We are all small “things” in this world of ours. Here one minute and got the next. I believe we are all afraid to be forgotten, to not be seen, but yet afraid to be different. So we colour our hair, pierce ourselves, decorate our bodies and spray graffiti to stake a small piece of real estate in what we call life. We leave our mark behind. Outside the lines is about staking my place, one artwork at a time and connecting with others through visual language.
Exploring line and space, where the edges meet. Mixed media, collage, graphite, pencil. Miriam Traher is an intuitive artist, creating mixed media abstracts: led by color, shapes, marks and lines as they are layered and responded to. Her work is vibrant, expressive and full of visual texture, bringing life and joy to homes
