Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Top border of eyes painted in pink flower shape with three petals. Blue nose tip. Light blue and pink swirls on the cheeks. Dark blue eyebrows. Pink swirls on the chin, with a pink dot in the center. Two green dots on chin along with a triangular-shaped line. Orange dot at the center of forehead with three green brush stroke marks above. Upside down, triangular-shaped pink line below the orange dot.
