Wood and acrylic paint
Circle mandala. Half of the circle is left unpainted, the other half is painted gold, along with the outer border. Southwest, tribal design carved into both sides. The design is painted on the unpainted side and vice versa.
The Recycling the Sacred collection is composed of mandalas whose materials were primarily sourced from second hand stores. The artist began collecting variations of wood from second hand stores to later repurpose and give them "a new dignity and life." Many of the patterns used are inspired by ancient native cultures, particularly the basket and pottery designs of the Huhugam. Most of the mandalas take a circle shape, celebrating the Sacred Circle symbol and our place in it.
