Carved by artist in the Traditional Japanese Noh mask style. The Japanese Mihon Noh Mask series are comprised of masks that represent demons, gods, and ghosts from ancient Buddhist mythology. Noh mask's are typically carved with cypress then painted over, but mahagony was chosen to create a distinct style for the artist.
Carved mahogany with matte finish. Three short creases on the center of forehead. Long unibrow directly under forehead creases. Two narrow eye slits carved and punched out. Shallow, thin line carved on eyelids. Two lines carved on each cheekbone, following the curve of the cheek. Two nasolabial folds on each side of mouth extending to the bottom lip. Slightly opened mouth with the top row of six teeth displayed.
