Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Bright red color scheme. Red, swirly lines painted over the entire face. Top border of eyes and nose tip painted red. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in red. Gems of various colors placed on the chin, cheeks, and forehead.
