Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Orange, light blue, and dark blue color scheme, with small pink details. Top border of eyes painted in a light blue floral shape with three petals. Dark blue eyebrows, nose, and outline of teeth. Three pink dots on the forehead, three pink dots on the chin, and one pink dot on each cheek. One swirly orange line on each cheek, the chin, and the forehead. Swirly blue line on each side of the mouth. Upside down arrow-shaped line on the forehead.
