Kimani. Full face mask used in performances by Arizona dance and theater companies. Angry calaca face with sculpted raised eyebrows and cheek bones. Forhead has an orange X with dots coming down the bridge of the nose. Blue lines and dots are on the forehead and eyebrows, cheeks, upper lip, and chin. Dark reddish orange color painted around the eyes, and nose, sides of mouth and two teeth. Carved teeth extent from one side to the other of the mask, outlined in black, with holes carved out on the sides.
It is made of plaster bandage and paper clay, painted with acrylic paints and ribbon, which ties the mask to the performer.
These masks are part of the Performance Collection, which contains pieces available for loan to use in community and artistic performances.
