Andy #31. Plaster bandage, paper clay, painted with acrylics. Part of the Sun Serpent Series.
Hand held full mask male figure, not worn but held by actors with a wooden dowel on inside of mask. Face has a snarling expression, with the left eye squinted and upper lip curled up on the left side. Overall mask is painted a dark tan color with some red accents along creases and on cheeks, and nose. Eyebrows, mustache, and full beard are painted black, raised sculpted and carved with hairlines. Eyes have light brown painted iris with black outlines and white on either side. Think black lines painted along the edges and upper eyelids. Mouth is parted with lips painted light rose pink color, showing top gums and four spaced upper teeth, painted white.
The Sun Serpent was a play produced by Childsplay, performed at Tempe Center for the Arts in 2011.
Artist and sculptor Zarco Guerrero made about 30 masks for the performance. All of the masks were made directly on the actors to better fit them during the performance.
