This painting, 'Pantalone & Colombina', is part of a series of of paintings based on Robert Schumann's 'Carnaval' Op.9, created for the event "Muziekschilderijen" (Musicpaintings) / "Paintings of .... ", a combination of a recital and exhibition in Heerenveen, The Netherlands, in 2011. In collaboration with pianist Sabine Simon, organised by Vriendenconcerten (artistic director Pamela Smits) The exhibition of paintings reflected the music program of the recital. For Schumann's Carnaval I was inspired by figures of the Italian Commedia dell' Arte.
In 2012 the 'Schumann - Carnaval' series of paintings took part in the exhibition "Muziekschilderijen" at the Amstelkerk, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
