A dancer jumps into big butterfly wings....This painting, 'Florestan', is part of a series of of paintings based on Robert Schumann's 'Carnaval' Op.9. Florestan was the name Schumann gave to a joyous and impulsive character type he identified with, in opposition to the more serious and pondering type, 'Eusebius'. Created for the event "Muziekschilderijen" (Musicpaintings) / "Paintings of .... ", a combination of a recital and exhibition in Heerenveen, The Netherlands in 2011; in collaboration with pianist Sabine Simon, organised by Vriendenconcerten (artistic director Pamela Smits) The exhibition of paintings reflected the music program of the recital.
