This is another painting where my mind was straying to Rembrandt as I painted it. I was thinking about the god Pan, a very old Greek nature god, and of Plato’s story on how humans are merely looking at the shadows of things cast on the wall of a cave by their fire. Here I have Pan touching these human-made images on the cave wall. Here is a philosophical question. What will he do with or to them?
