Athena in the Studio 1 & 2, Athena at Barnes and Noble, and Athena at the Institute of Fine Art Library work together as a group, though only Athena in the Studio 1 &2 are a diptych.
Athena at Barnes and Noble takes its inspiration from the cover illustration on my copy of the Odyssey and the skirt my model is wearing. L. L. Bean preppy fabric meets a stylized 1960’s riff an ancient Greek stylized representation of the ocean. Athena, in my painting, is reading that copy of the Odyssey and is mightily disturbed by the viewer interrupting her reading. Again, I am playing angularity against curves in the background. This painting also has a relief sculpture prose poem about Athena and my interactive at the bookstore.
