Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, was one of the first in the NY Muse project. It was actually painted before the formal start, before I had the theme of the project completely figured out. This painting is a bit of a joke. In my paintings I do not stick with the traditional white ethnicity one usually sees in representations of Greek mythology. I am painting the continuation of ancient architypes in our modern culture, and as I live in New York, these archetypes are represented by people across many ethnicities. So, in this painting I have Aphrodite, a beautiful Indian woman holding a condom box, which has an image of a blonde woman touted as exotic. In the background painted onto the goldleaf are passages from several ancient texts on various ancient middle eastern goddess which I combined.
