• This painting comes from an ancient photo I took while in college. I am playing with cadmiums as I always do, and also finding my inspiration in ancient Greek art and mixing it with modern work. I called this painting The Gorgon because of the snaking, curly hair of the model. I also loved the graphic print of the model’s shirt, it made me think of ancient Greek pottery. What I really loved about my reference photo was that it also captured the superhero graffiti illustration that one of my college classmates had drawn on the wall. It is such a wonderful drawing I just had to include it in my painting but what did it mean if I left it there all by itself? I love serendipitous happenings in my artwork. If this painting was about the Gorgon Medusa, we need her to be frightening someone. The running superhero was perfect. So, I created a matching illustration of Medusa running after our hero. Perfect.
