Abby's favorite kind of day was when daddy would begin breaking the foals born the year before. She hated that the “wild” in their eyes slowly dimmed, but she absolutely loved the gentleness and loyalty that grew in it’s place. This year was special. Last year she picked her horse. She had begged to sleep in the barn the night she was born, but daddy said no. She had nearly outrun the morning dew making it to the barn the next morning. The foal was a beautiful buckskin and she had named her Butterscotch. Someday Abby and Butterscotch would move together, almost an extension of one another, cornering perfectly, within a hair of each barrel. Abby's favorite day was just the beginning of a beautiful friendship and big rodeo dreams.
Thank you to Isabel Beard for the great story, and to Abby from The 406! Facebook Page for lending her name. Apparently, this beautiful girl looks just like Abby!
