The first building you come to when entering the property of writer Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, is the old barn.
As the volunteers still keep the property up, it appears that the barn is still used for daily chores as well as having many period pieces of farm equipment that would have been used in the era when this was a working orange groove.
It was a great place to sit under the awning and take in the beauty of the place and to watch the chickens and rooster run around.
It is by far one of my favorite state parks. Not because it has a beautiful beach, or amazing trails as I usually look for. But because it was also one of my mothers favorites and it was the last State Park that I was able to take my mother and father to before they passed. Therefore it will always hold a special place in my heart.
There is tons to see and learn about there. and the women that do the tours are amazing. They dress in period attire, and really make you feel at home.
