This is the screen porch on the home of writer Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings where she penned The Yearling, that won the Pulitzer Prize.
The day that we toured it, I was on the grounds taking photos and looked back to see one of the volunteers entering the porch where my family was chatting with another volunteer about how life used to be when MKR, lived in the home.
It struck me that life was very much as it was that day, with neighbors visiting and sitting on the screened porch, talking about their day. I knew it was a moment that I needed to capture.
It is by far one of my favorite state parks. Not because it has a beautiful beach, or amazing trails as I usually look for. But because it was also one of my mothers favorites and it was the last State Park that I was able to take my mother and father to before they passed. Therefore it will always hold a special place in my heart.
There is tons to see and learn about there. and the women that do the tours are amazing. They dress in period attire, and really make you feel at home.
