the flowering desert of Big Bend National Park
Art critics report that my high desert landscapes reflect a sense of place, so I couldn't resist a little play on words in this painting of fragrant wildflowers in the Texas borderlands of Big Bend. Wildflowers blanketing the normally dry desert this spring, a desert lush after a wet winter has thrown me into a flower phase. I love using colors that have languished in my palette thru a decade of drought. During this hike, I sat in flowers so thick, I couldn't find a place to sit where I wouldn't crush any fragile petals. My inspiration in creating this piece was not only the lush colors of spring wildflowers, but even more, the heady floral bouquet that perfumes the desert in bloom.
