‘River of Forgotten Sorrows’ 18x36”, mixed media assemblage (above), is a unique collaborative piece created by found object artist Lynn Dodge and artist Karen Haub . This artwork is a tribute to the people of the parishes along the Mississippi River, in the corridor between New Orlean’s and Baton Rouge, Louisianna known as Cancer Alley.
Over 100 petrochemical plants and refineries in this area have been spewing petrochemical distillates into the air and water since the early 1980’s.
Many of the people in these parishes are dying of cancer and are too poor to move.
Environmental Justice for these people is needed now... there are no plans in place to help the people in the affected parishes by closing down plants or at least regulating more than one chemical at a time. Plans have been made to build more plants in the next few years.
Donations can be made to Resilience.org, and Earthjustice.org to help fight for Environmental Justice for all.
