I was inspired to create a very colorful, expressive, intuitive, textural version of a contemporary landscape, and have always been inspired by the English Landscape painters of the 19th century as well as the California Plein Air painters of the early 20th century. I chose these colors to produce the effect of a sunset on a Spring day in a peaceful, pastoral landscape and moved the paint around with charcoal, and a palette knife. I also created surface texture in the first few layers with ridged tools.
