Statement
Karen Haub is a Southern California based mixed media artist drawn to intuitive landscapes and figures. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, and has shown her work in numerous galleries in Southern California. Karen has sold work throughout the U.S. and internationally since 2014.
Karen interprets her landscapes through a variety of materials including oil, cold wax, encaustic, and acrylic. The brushwork, mark making, and dripping techniques she uses in her intuitive landscapes and seascapes, suggest the passage of time, and are a tribute to the enduring, ethereal essence of natural landscapes untouched by industrialization and urban sprawl.
The collaborative work that she does with found object artist, Lynn Dodge is focused on bringing awareness to viewers about the destruction of the environment and environmental issues we all face as inhabitants of a dying planet. The earthy, textural elements of each painting combined with the upcycled, found object elements, bring a keen awareness to the viewer that our planet is covered with discarded objects, that pollute our environment both in the making and in the disposal of them.
