In The Mustard Tree, titled Fullness of the Inconceivable Kingdom on the back of the canvas, I explore the parable of the kingdom of heaven through the image of a majestic oak providing refuge for black birds. I originally created this piece as a "visual sermon," painting it live onstage at Oak Hills Church in Folsom, California.
This work is a harmonious blend of photorealism and mixed media created by layering photo transfers over Bible pages. Using acrylic, colored pencil, wax pastel, and ephemera, I built physical layers to represent the spiritual depth and sanctuary found within the parable.
