This artwork was inspired by the parable of the sower in Mark 4. After Jesus finished telling the parable that likened people’s hearts to soil, he said, “Those who have ears to hear, let them hear.” When he explains the parable, he said, “Those that were sown on good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit.” The image that came to me was a fruit bearing tree that is growing out of a human heart. So the heart is the person’s soul, the tree are the good things that come from taking God’s word to heart and the butterflies swarming are transformed lives, which happens whenever we let what God has done in our heart to spill out to others.
