The inspiration for this painting came from sitting on my patio in the late afternoon, when the sun was hitting my garden arched trellis. The light reflected on the different parts of the white trellis, showing off in shades of peach, lavender, and yellow. I could not believe that I was seeing the colors that I thought I was seeing, but my camera captured the same colors. I actually have a Peaches and Cream honeysuckle vine growing on the trellis, but when I first painted the correct colors, the blooms got lost against the green leaves. I then utilized my artistic license to paint the blooms orange, always a happy color for me. And who does not like a couple of ruby-throated hummingbirds thrown in! This is the most common hummingbird seen in North Carolina, and with a life-span of three to five years, it will cross the Gulf of Mexico multiple times during their lives, traveling between their Tar Heel nesting home and their wintering grounds in Central America.
