This artwork is created using the raya knot technique to build a large woven tapestry made from raffia. Once the weaving was finished, I shaped sections of the piece with scissors to create a fluid and rounded form, while leaving other areas untouched. This contrast between shaped and unshaped sections brings depth to the surface and reveals the natural character of the material.
The work reflects the duality found in nature. The title, Corriente, translates as flow, referring to the movement of a river that can be calm and gentle or wild and forceful. This tension between opposites became an important theme in my practice, and it first appeared clearly in this piece. Corriente suggests the shifting states of nature and the balance between control and surrender, where the material follows its own rhythm while being guided by my hand.
