Statement
Over the past few years, my art practice has focused primarily on two mediums: textiles and painting. I use traditional crafts like weaving, macrame, crochet, knitting, and sewing, which demand patience and precision. These techniques connect me to a lineage of handmade artistry and female heritage, urging me to slow down and honour their rich history. They act as an anchor, providing a methodological discipline that shapes my ongoing exploration of texture and form. However, I also crave spontaneity, which I explore through intuitive painting. It's about finding beauty in the unexpected.
This duality defines my creative process and is the basis for a wider exploration of more universal themes like chaos and order, stillness and movement, structure and improvisation. I am curious about how to express these dualities through craft and contemporary expression. My art delves into the intersections of art, craft, and design. I am interested in erasing the fine line that separates these fields.
I find beauty in simplicity and imperfection; that's why raw materials with their subtle flaws inspire most of my pieces. I am drawn to imperfection from the moment I choose the materials to the process of creation. Even when I try to recreate the idea of a shape, I allow the handmade nature of my work to reveal the imperfections that occur during the process.
