"Queenfisher Takes a Swim" is a fiber piece that includes freehand machine stitching and was the latest of this series that represents my past painter's life and work. As a painter I would layer images on top of each other, using the overlay method of revealing parts of what I am covering up and leaving a relationship between the images. This piece begins this journey in my current media of fibers.
A "Queenfisher" and the Woodcock woman are freehand machine stitched, layering colors to create the illusion of depth with thread on cotton that is then appliqued and reinforced stitch on to Toile decor fabric. A tree and a swimming pool are also freehand machine stitched directly on the toile fabric. The pool ladder and diving board are drawn and stitched on felt that is also appliqued and stitched onto the toile fabric.
The Final piece is stretched onto a 23" wooden embroidery hoop.
