One Night In Chartres

One Night In Chartres The Cathedral and village of Chartres have held a special place in my heart since I was 16 years old visiting for the first time. Guided through the old streets by French girls my age (I remember marveling at their clear skin #teenangst ). They recounted how the townspeople had rebuilt the Cathedral after it had burned down. Fast-forward 50 years and a couple September’s ago in France, we found ourselves at the final evening of the Chartres Festival of Lights. On every street, ancient buildings were lit with shifting lights. Caught up in the magic, we ran. We ran like 16-year old’s, through narrow streets, chasing giant puppets who moved through and above the crowds. I hope this painting conveys a bit about memory, shifting light and magical spaces.
