Many of Jean works are based on Art History references. “Imagine” is an homage to Gustave Klimt. His small tiled shapes create a cascade in this painting. Jean sought movement, energy and ,contradictorily, calm through color harmony.
It is meant for the viewer to discover something new with every contemplation. The edges are painted so that framing is optional.
The title recalls John Lennon. While painting in France-Montmartre-a few years ago, I sat sketching under a tree. On a tightrope above, a performer sang this song in a haunting, beautiful way. I determined to reference that crazy moment in this musical painting.
