Created with washi paper, colored Chinese ink, and pigments on canvas, this work opens into a shifting landscape of colors that flow from reddish greens to deep blues, evoking the horizon as it transforms with light.
The piece draws its inspiration from the minute scales covering butterfly wings—structures that refract light into infinite hues—and from the Renaissance tradition in which artists such as Piero della Francesca painted angels with multicolored wings, recalling those of butterflies. In doing so, they sought to give form to the spiritual through vibrant, delicate, and luminous elements.
Countless units of paper overlap across the surface like scales, creating a fractal-like structure where chromatic variations emerge with every shift in light and perspective. Without a fixed focal point, the work invites the viewer’s gaze to drift freely, like a dance, uncovering new layers of color and texture in an endless metamorphosis.
