As the story is told, ‘Patriot John Todd was taken prisoner by the British, escaped when allowed onshore for provisions, and appealed to a woman in a wooded creek for help. She took him to her home and gave him food. Her last name was Todd also, and when her husband, Captain Todd, was ordered to Trenton, young Todd went with him. When the war was over, John Todd married Jane Todd, their daughter. This painting was awarded Third Place in Oil in the DAR American Heritage Competition in 2019.
