Paris flower markets are wonderful with their overflowing palettes of color. To retain simple shapes with this image, the technique I used was ‘poured watercolor’. The artist must simplify all of the shapes of color, in my case, no more than 5 values. Starting light to dark, you mask only the lightest values, then literally ‘pour’ thinned watercolor over the entire painting in yellow, red and blue. The shapes are built with each darker value color. This technique lets watercolor do its magic by mixing the colors on the paper, not the palette.
