For over fifteen years, I taught painting workshops at the National Trust Garden, Filoli in Woodside, California (nr. San Francisco). The volunteers ensure the tea house is continually filled with flowers from the gardens. The technique used on this is wax and watercolor on rice paper. You build up the values with layers of watercolor and wax. The wax is used to stop the flow of the watercolor, much like a batik. When finished, you removed the wax by ironing it onto newspaper. The results are always a surprise and require careful planning.
