Artist Statement:
We might think our native plants are commonplace, but when we study them closely, they become quite strange and otherworldly. I attempt to understand their form through woven sculpture. This work is one of a series that studies the carnivorous bog-dwelling pitcher plant, Sarracenia purpurea. The work models the undulating upper flange of the pitcher, which develops a rich red color on the outer abaxial surface, even as the inner adaxial surface remains green.
