As a child growing up in the whipstick forest, north east of Bendigo, I often go back there to walk and reminisce. I love the subtle beauty in what first appears to be a very harsh landscape. Every September the wildflowers come out and there is a sea of colour. As a child I would visit one particular orchid at the back of our house. I found it wonderous.
To stay connected to this sense of childlike wonder, during the pandemic I painted this work for my inner child. It helped me to remember that even in crisis we already have symbols that we can draw upon that give comfort, hope and nurturing when we most need it.
