Work. Sometimes it’s a joy, for most not. This painting is one of the most obvious in subject matter that I have done in a while, perhaps ever. I was laid-off the day just prior to completing it. It is frustrating to work at a job when you aren’t appreciated for your efforts. Sometimes you just know that a downsizing is coming but that doesn’t help when you are finally let go. This painting, like many I do, sat at the “well what are you going to paint on it?” stage for months. It happens. What also happens is that the visual can pop into my head and in a short period of time, I bring it to life. This is one was a form of emotional release in the form of a self-portrait. The act of painting helped, more so than normal. My first painting as a child was entirely an emotional release. Here, there is some humor in the piece, a universal humor. Who among us hasn’t had a bad day at work?
