'The Long Way Round' is an original hand-cut stencil painting by Melbourne artist Geoff Cunningham, set near the site where I spent the best part of my 20s - the famous Espy Hotel, where I saw countless bands and drank too many beers!
Part of my Summer Lovin’ series, this artwork taps into the nostalgia of beachside wandering and the freedom of daylight saving - eking every last bit out of the day before heading home.
Painted using hand-cut stencils, aerosol and acrylic, 'The Long Way Round' combines nostalgic Australian imagery with clean graphic style and layered stencil technique. The footbridge gives the work its rhythm and structure, while the skater brings the human moment - focused, sunlit and gliding through a beautiful summer day.
