Remember when minimum chips were affordable?
'Minimum Chips' is an original hand-cut stencil painting by Melbourne artist Geoff Cunningham, set beneath the St Kilda footbridge on a bright Australian summer day. Two boys wander home sharing a paper parcel of hot chips — the kind that was somehow big enough for two kids and only set you back 20 cents each!
Part of Geoff’s Summer Lovin’ series, this artwork taps into the small rituals of Australian childhood: unsupervised freedom to hang out with friends, get into mischief but always having fun.
Painted using hand-cut stencils, aerosol and acrylic, 'Minimum Chips' combines nostalgic Australian imagery with Geoff’s clean graphic style and layered stencil technique. The St Kilda bridge provides the structure, but the real story is that little shared moment — two kids, 40 cents worth of chips, and probably a bit of sunburn.
