Jeanhee Chung
Commitment to Community
During the COVID-19 pandemic, as protective masks ran short, volunteers stepped up, transforming their homes into sewing workshops to protect frontline workers and vulnerable neighbors.
At the heart of this movement was Jeanhee Chung (b.1970), a second-generation Korean-American who is from Mamaroneck. Combining her expertise in technology and community organizing, she founded SewforNY.org and SewforCT.org, platforms that connected volunteers with clinics, hospitals, and individuals in need. Through this initiative, she helped distribute over 16,000 handmade masks, ensuring her community remained safe and supported.
Jeanhee’s work, alongside countless volunteers, reinforced a simple but profound truth: in moments of challenge, a united community can rise to meet any need.
