Jennifer Johnson
Playing for Gold
Jennifer Johnson (b.1948) has an impact that goes beyond wheelchair basketball and para-table tennis. A champion for accessibility and inclusion, she has expanded opportunities for disabled athletes in the U.S. and Jamaica.
As President of the American Wheelchair Table Tennis Association and co-chair of the USA Table Tennis Disabled Players Committee, she gained awareness, and funding for adaptive sports. Her efforts earned her inductions into the Wheelchair Sports USA Halls of Fame and the USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame.
She has inspired many, particularly in immigrant communities and among athletes of color. She educates others on wheelchair sports history and speaks on disability rights, athletics, and inclusion. She works to ensure disabled athletes receive recognition, and paves the way for a more inclusive future.
