It was morning, Christmas Eve.
December in Buenos Aires, oppressive heat, like always.
I turn on the TV, flip through the channels, and land on the news.
That’s when I see him.
Out of focus, buried in the background.
There, but not really there.
As they talk about the weather, about the holidays,
He stays quiet, almost invisible.
The crying child.
No gifts this Christmas.
