"Magical Movements"
"Magic is learning to see the continuous miracle."
Alejandro Jodorowski
"The present collective exhibition has been curated with works expressly created to speak of magic as a cultural heritage of Mexico and humanity, but also of our personal magic.
Magic is a mystical resource, the elder sister of culture and offspring of the same act of kindling hope through symbolic gestures. Magic is a device of cohesion, of fraternity, where the other completes the circle of connection in the desire to believe.
Magic occurs collectively but is born individually, within oneself, in the intimacy of the subjective that attends to the world, listens to and savors the world, and seeks movements and mechanisms that activate, repeat, and sustain it, as if through empirical verification, far from religion and science but present in both through faith: to know that something is without knowing it.
The power of magic resides in faith; the energy that completes the mechanics of the magic pass, the petitionary prayer. The person-magic (shaman, healer, witch) only asks to believe devoutly to build this mystical agreement that seeks answers.
Art, on the other hand, constructs something greater poetically: doubt.
Art as a poetic evidence of the intersection that stretches the negotiation and struggle between the external and internal worlds functions as a mirror of magic. It does not construct by solving for the world but for the self; what greater doubt is there?
To doubt poetically, to doubt from the inside out, and to marvel at the result, creating a strange logic called art that, with some luck, may become magic."
— Dr. Damian Ontiveros
